Welcome to Sunshine Coast Neurosurgery, located on the Sunshine Coast in Queensland.
We are a specialist practice led by Dr Stephen Byrne. Our dedicated team are committed to providing world-class healthcare and personalised treatment using cutting-edge technology and the latest techniques in brain and spine surgery.
Dr Byrne has extensive experience in the treatment of adult brain surgery, complex spine surgery and was the first Neurosurgeon on the Sunshine Coast to perform a craniotomy procedure to remove a brain tumour, the first navigation or GPS – assisted spinal fusion procedure and the first anterior (through the abdomen) fusion procedure.
Dr Byrne and his team aim to improve the quality of life of his patients and works closely with a multidisciplinary team to ensure optimal results.

Dr Stephen Byrne MBChB, MRCSEd, FRACS
Dr Stephen Byrne is a neurosurgeon and complex spine surgeon who commenced practice on the Sunshine Coast in 2017 and opened Sunshine Coast Neurosurgery in 2019.
Dr Byrne underwent his neurosurgical training in Melbourne, Adelaide and New Zealand before gaining his Fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons. Dr Byrne is originally from Scotland and completed medical school at the University of Aberdeen, the oldest English-speaking Medical School in the Western World.
